Youth Computer Classes
Persons with disabilities can arrange for special assistance by calling (847) 923-3439 two weeks prior to the program. The following classes take place in the Youth Services Computer Lab at the central library. All classes are one hour long and require registration. Please register in person by noon the preceding Friday at the Youth Services Information Desk. The cost is $5 per child, per program. Non-Schaumburg Township District Library cardholders may register for Youth Services computer classes. Classes in Microsoft applications use Office 2007. Hands-on computer practice is included with each class.
Youth Computer Programs
Scanning and Editing Photos (ages 9-14)
Monday, Aug. 3 10-11 a.m.
Learn how to scan photos into the computer. We will then edit photos using Photoshop Elements 4 to crop, adjust brightness, contrast, color and focus; remove red eye; add text; save, print and paste the photo into a Word document.
Digital Descriptions (ages 9-14)
Thursday, Aug. 6 9:30-11 a.m.
Learn the basics of photography and operating a digital camera as we take pictures in the Youth Services Department. Look for your photos to appear on the Youth Services digital sign to promote departmental activities and programs.
Smart Searching (ages 7-14)
Saturday, Sept. 19 10-11 a.m.
Become a savvy digital detective as we explore the Internet and our online databases to find the best information and pictures for your projects.The class will conclude with a brief online scavenger hunt to practice these new skills.
Computer Safety: Tips for Parents and Children (ages 7-14)
Saturday, Sept. 26 10-11 a.m.
Learn some basic tips and strategies for protecting your safety and privacy on the Internet. There must be one adult for each child.
